Worlds and speed

Why the same building takes longer on one world than another, and how to read the numbers in this guide.

Every world has a speed

Each world runs at a speed. On a ×1 world, a mill produces at its normal rate. On a ×10 world, the same mill produces ten times as much per hour, and a building that takes 10 hours finishes in 1.

Your world's speed is in the Server panel. Click the server clock below the town to open it.

How this guide shows it

Pick your world's speed at the top of the page. Every number that depends on speed follows your pick: rates grow with it and build times shrink with it. For example, 100 workers in a lumbermill cut 20 wood per hour at the speed you picked.

The guide starts at ×1 and remembers your pick in this browser.

What speed changes

  • Production of wood, iron and stone
  • Tax income
  • Population growth, and population loss when people are unhappy
  • How fast happiness moves toward its target
  • Construction, research and training times
  • Travel time for armies, spies and settlers

What speed leaves alone

These run on real time on every world:

  • The era: 90 days.
  • Beginner protection: 7 days.
  • Temple chests: one every 12 hours.
  • The wait for newly trained troops: 3 days.
  • Becoming abandoned: 14 days away.
  • Feasts: 12 hours. Other happiness boosts: 1 day.
